The Evolution of Presentations – Vietnam

As a long term resident of Vietnam; 20 years plus, most people comment “you must have seen a lot of changes”. Obviously the answer is yes. Most elements of Business and Leadership have changed vastly.

Today I’d like to focus on the humble business presentation. In the begging, there was power point to show the information, with very little professionalism by the presenter. Then most businesses started to train their key team members on how to structure their presentation, universities also began to train students in presentations.

The result of this is that most presentations today are uniform, and lack impact – read boring. Yes, video clips are now added, which can sometimes bring more sunshine.

From the chaos of non-structured presentations, to over structured logical presentations, brings us to where we are now. Leading organizations are now encouraging their teams to make more dynamic presentations using Storytelling – the main reason, stories are a more powerful way of getting a message across. Stories trigger emotion; emotions are a key driver in decision making.

The best presentations are logical, audience centric and feature stories.
What stage of evolution is your team at?
